Available Positions

Cooking Up a Storm - Snack & Program Support Volunteers

  • Time commitment: 2 hours a weeks during the program term (10 to 12 weeks)

The MacPhee Centre provides snacks for our youth and we’re always looking for cooks and bakers to help us make these treats. We have a great kitchen with all the tools and ingredients you’ll need to prepare our daily snacks. All you need to do is show up and start cooking! 

We have an incredible team who facilitates our programming, but they can’t do it alone. The Program Support volunteers are on-site to ensure our facilitators have the help they need when working with youth. Being a Program Support volunteer is a great way to get hands-on experience and get involved with our amazing programs.

Keeping our Tech in check – Technology Volunteers

  • Time commitment: 2 hours a Week according to availability / on Call

When it comes to creative learning techniques we have the experience, but our tech doesn’t always cooperate! That’s where you come in – MacPhee is fortunate to have fantastic equipment for our programs, but we need Technology Volunteers to help maintain it and work out any bugs. If you’re sharp with computers and technology, we’d love to have you on board to help us keep our equipment in top shape. We’re looking for one Technology Volunteers to be available once a week.


Green Thumbs – Garden Volunteers

  • Time commitment: 2 hours a week during Summer and Spring/ on Call during Winter and Fall

The MacPhee Centre has a beautiful garden, where we grow fresh vegetables to offer to youth. To keep it fresh, we need to take care of it, but MacPheee staff don’t always have the time to keep it growing. Our Garden Volunteers will help us with the grass, planting and maintaining the gardens and making sure youth have fresh, delicious vegetables available all summer. This position will be most busy during the spring and summer.

Fixin’ things around 50 Queen – Building Maintenance Volunteers

  • Time commitment:  2 hours bi weekly / On call

We’re incredibly proud of our beautiful, historic location in the heart of downtown Dartmouth. The youth who attend our programs are great at helping us maintain the space, but occasionally we need some outside help with building maintenance. If you’re a handy person and you’d like to help us keep the house functioning top-notch for our youth, you could be a perfect Building Maintenance volunteer. Our centre at 50 Queen will thank you for it!

Supporting our students - Homework Helper Volunteers

  • Time commitment: 2 hours a week during Drop in days. During 10 to 12 weeks of term

Several times a week, MacPhee provides an open space for our youth to catch up with their homework or learn new skills. The Homework Helper volunteers are the people that, along with staff, provide support to youth during this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

To be a MacPhee volunteer you must complete the volunteer application and be able to provide MacPhee a copy of your clean Criminal Record Check as well as a Child Abuse Registry check. These checks must be done and provided to MacPhee every 2 years.
