• GSA (Gender & Sexuality Alliance) Facilitator   (2 positions)

Program Overview 
GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) is a creative, community-focused program for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and allies ages 12–19. Facilitators will work alongside youth to explore topics related to gender, identity, and queer communities through artmaking, discussion, and connection. Past programming has included exploring queer artist movements and creating protest art, poetry, zines, paintings, collages, and other creative projects.

The program is intentionally flexible. Facilitators will bring their own creative practices and ideas while remaining responsive to the interests, needs, and direction of the group. Building relationships, creating community, and supporting youth exploration and self-expression are central to the program.

Contract Details 

• Program: GSA: Queer Arts Drop-In
• Location: MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning, Dartmouth, NS
• Day / Time: Fridays 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
• Terms: Fall, Winter, and Spring
• Term Length: Approximately 8 weeks per term
• Contract Structure: Facilitators will be contracted separately for each term.

Preferred Availability: We are ideally looking for two facilitators who are available across all three terms, allowing facilitators to build relationships with youth and develop the program over the course of the school year. Applicants with availability for one or two individual terms will also be considered. 

Responsibilities 

Facilitators will be responsible for:

• Planning and facilitating inclusive, engaging, arts-based programming for youth ages 12 to 19.
• Developing activities that explore creative expression, identity, gender, and queer arts and culture.
• Creating an environment that is welcoming, respectful, and supportive of diverse identities and experiences.
• Adapting activities and approaches based on the needs, interests, and abilities of participating youth.
• Supporting positive group dynamics and meaningful opportunities for youth connection and collaboration.
• Communicating with MacPhee Centre program staff regarding program planning, materials, youth needs, and program logistics.
• Following MacPhee Centre policies and procedures related to youth safety, accessibility, and inclusion.

Qualifications and Experience 

We are seeking facilitators who have:

• Experience facilitating arts-based programming or working in a creative practice.
• Experience working with youth, preferably ages 12 to 19.
• An understanding of and experience working within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and/or queer arts and culture.
• Strong communication, organization, and group facilitation skills.
• A collaborative and youth-centred approach to programming.
• The ability to create an inclusive environment where youth feel comfortable participating, experimenting, and expressing themselves.
• Experience in multiple artistic disciplines is an asset, but applicants from a range of creative practices are encouraged to apply.
