Portaupique creative programming

Portapique hands-on arts

The voices of participants and their families speak for themselves. They spoke about what made the experience meaningful to them — “making new friends,” “having the chance to try out several musical instruments,” “being given the time to learn music at their own pace,” and learning that “it is okay to not be perfect, especially when trying something new.” And when asked what their least favourite part was, one youth answered without hesitation: “Going home.”

These testimonials show how impactful this program is. Youth have access to a safe and welcoming space where they can explore new things and connect with their community, giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise.

This program was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
