We’re sharing another testimonial this week from one of our facilitators from this past term at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning. When you come through the doors to MacPhee, you feel a part of something special. This extends beyond youth to volunteers, facilitators, and the community, and everyone feels equally determined to uphold and share this feeling of belonging.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about donating to the MacPhee Centre? How does each gift make an impact?
I’d share a bit of my own story. Growing up in Brazil, I was lucky enough to take part in community programs similar to those at the MacPhee Centre, and the lessons I learned then are ones I’ll cherish forever. The work we’re doing here truly shapes how young people envision their future and the future of their community. Yesterday, I was a young participant myself; today, I have the privilege of teaching my art to these young people.
Each gift empowers us to open doors for them, allowing their creativity to flourish in ways that inspire their lives and uplift our community. Every donation is a gift toward nurturing the potential of our youth and showing them the real impact of their voices.
What do you wish/hope for the MacPhee Centre in the future?
In the future, I envision the MacPhee Centre expanding across the HRM, reaching even more young people and empowering them through creative programming. I imagine the ‘MacPhee Creative Palace’ travelling across Canada to showcase our youth’s art at major events, making their talent visible on a national stage.
I hope to see the Centre able to hire more high-level professionals to guide our youth. With a stronger online platform, we could offer ways for supporters to purchase youth-created products, fostering a self-sustaining cycle of creativity and opportunity. I hope that the MacPhee Centre’s reputation will grow so that youth, parents, and schools are all excited to join us on this amazing journey. With endless resources, we could build something truly transformative for our community and beyond.
